The Book
When I first decided to write this book, it wasn’t because I wanted to “write a book.”
It was because I needed to say what so many of us long to believe: In today’s
fast-paced, crazy-busy, “I must be successful at all costs” kind of world, YOU CAN
attain your goals and achieve your desired results while maintaining a number one
principle—PEOPLE MATTER!
If you are like me, you strive to ensure that the people you interact with on a daily
basis, whether they are colleagues or friends, know that their contributions and
opinions are important.
My experience in both project management and executive-level management has
shown me time and time again that if we fail to illustrate to others that they matter
and that they are valued, everything we attempt to accomplish will be more difficult
and less fulfilling.
Every day we must deliver results, regardless of our profession or vocation, and how
we deliver those results makes a difference in our level of personal and professional
success. Delivering results can also be very difficult when faced with incredibly
challenging situations, and as the stakes get higher, we sometimes struggle with how to
keep our wits about us and sustain our approach of even and fair-handed leadership.
I maintain that no matter the challenge or the delivery goal, it is always best to get right
back to the basics. The same skills that help a fifth-grade teacher manage a school play
to successful completion are actually the same skills that help me deliver a multi-million
-dollar project to completion, all with successful results.
Over the years, I’ve built up a toolkit that has helped me tremendously when working
with teams on challenging projects and initiatives. I’d like to share those tools with you.
These tools will help guide you in incorporating a people-first priority into your day-to-day
activities. The rewards will not only be for you and the people you work with, but also for
those that you live with and play with.
My goal is that this toolkit will help you DELIVER RESULTS through building HIGH-.PERFORMING TEAMS while following the KEY PRINCIPLE that PEOPLE MATTER! In .this way, you and your teams will deliver the promised results and, during the process, .no one will get crushed!
I have been asked over and over again to put the management and leadership concepts
that I use into book form, so here it is. My expertise is in the banking industry, but these
principles apply to every person in all careers and projects. Believe me when I tell you:
